Japanese Tofu, Made with a Mother’s Care in Malaysia

“I want my family to enjoy truly delicious tofu — even here in Malaysia.”

Oedo Tofu was born from a simple, honest wish.

Founded by Mariko Ejima, a Japanese mother living in Malaysia, our tofu is crafted with the same care you would give to your own family.

Why We Started Making Tofu

After living in Malaysia for over 13 years, Mariko often asked herself:

“Why is it so hard to find truly delicious tofu here?”

The journey began at home. One of her children suffered from persistent atopic dermatitis, which led her to study food and health more deeply. Over time, she immersed herself in fermented foods, macrobiotics, enzymes, and traditional nutrition.

Through this process, she came to one clear conclusion:
Tofu is one of the best foods for building a healthy body — when it is made properly.

That belief became the starting point of Oedo Tofu.

Learning from Japan’s Tofu Masters

Starting a tofu business in a foreign country without prior experience was not easy.

Mariko was fortunate to partner with Somenoya, a traditional Japanese tofu maker with over 160 years of history dating back to the Edo period. Through their technical guidance and shared vision of bringing authentic tofu to the world, OOEDO TOFU took shape.

She also trained at three tofu shops across Japan, including intensive early-morning training in Shiramine, Ishikawa Prefecture, starting as early as 3:30 a.m.

She later earned her Tofu Meister certification from the Japan Tofu Meister Association.

From concept to production, it took more than one year to bring OOEDO TOFU to life.

Our Commitment to Quality

Most supermarket tofu is produced using long boiling times and fully automated processes to extend shelf life — often at the cost of flavor.

At OOEDO TOFU, we follow traditional Japanese methods, carefully handling key steps by hand.

Because food made with time and care simply tastes better.

We are equally strict about ingredients:

  • Non-GMO soybeans imported from Japan

  • Natural nigari (bittern) from Okinawa

  • Purified and softened water to closely match Japanese water quality

  • Specialized equipment imported directly from Japan

All ingredients are additive-free and gentle on the body.

From 300 Sold-Out Blocks to Everyday Tables

At our first appearance at the Japanese Association Charity Bazaar on November 5th, all 300 blocks of tofu sold out within hours.

What surprised us most was that our tofu was loved not only by Japanese customers, but also by Malaysians.

Today, OOEDO TOFU is enjoyed by health-conscious families, Japanese food lovers, and those seeking clean, honest food for everyday meals.

Bringing Tofu into Everyday Life

Our tofu is made to be enjoyed at home — simply, and comfortably.

Whether it’s a family dinner, a light meal, or a healthy choice for children,

we hope OOEDO TOFU becomes a small but trusted part of your daily table.
